Do I need a work permit to move to Luxembourg?
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can live and work in Luxembourg without a permit — you register with your commune within 8 days and request a registration certificate within 3 months. Third-country nationals need a temporary authorisation to stay approved before entering Luxembourg, followed by a residence permit (salaried worker, highly qualified worker / EU Blue Card, investor and other categories). We handle both routes daily.
How long does the immigration process take?
For non-EU nationals, the authorisation to stay typically takes 2–3 months from the Immigration Directorate. After arrival, commune registration, the medical check and the residence permit usually add another 4–8 weeks. EU citizens can complete everything within days of arriving.
How expensive is housing in Luxembourg?
Luxembourg City is one of Europe's tightest rental markets: roughly €1,600–€2,200/month for a one-bedroom in the capital and €2,500–€4,000+ for family homes, with better value in the surrounding communes and the south. Good properties go within days — which is exactly why a professional home search pays for itself.
What is commune registration and when must I do it?
Everyone taking up residence must declare their arrival at their commune's town hall within 8 days. This registration unlocks everything else: your social security number (matricule), CNS health insurance, tax card and bank account. We prepare the documents and come with you.
Can my children attend school in English?
Yes — free public European schools offer English-language sections, the public system runs international classes, and private options include ISL and St George's. Places fill quickly, so we start the school search on day one of your relocation plan.
Do I need French or Luxembourgish to live here?
No. English is everywhere in business and daily life, and nearly half of residents are foreign nationals. French dominates shops and administration, so a little French helps — and Luxembourgish is warmly appreciated (and needed later if you ever apply for citizenship).
Is Luxembourg boring? What is there to do on weekends?
A common myth — and easy to disprove. Within an hour you have the Mullerthal Trail through the "Petite Suisse", Vianden Castle, swimming at the Upper Sûre lake, wine tasting along the Moselle in Remich and Schengen, the UNESCO old town with the Bock Casemates, plus Trier, Metz and the Ardennes just across the border. Public transport to all of it is free, and Paris is 2h10 by TGV.
